Golf course set for spring opening

Golf course, 8-17-21Plan to spend next spring on the greens as the Overton Park golf course is on track to reopen in the second quarter of 2022.

Although course designers had originally hoped to have a grand opening this fall, the new grass in some of the fairways and tee areas needs a few more months to grow in. Spring rains also caused some washouts that required re-seeding in a few areas of the greens, which are otherwise almost completely grown in.

The greens and fairways all feature Bermuda grass, while the bunker areas contain fescue that will have to be re-seeded this fall as well.

The golf course project has been fully funded by private donors, although fundraising continues for a renovation of the Abe Goodman golf clubhouse and the building of a new maintenance facility. If you’d like to contribute, visit overtonpark.org/golf.
