Support made simpler: changes to our giving process

Flashlights in the Forest tour for Roots supporters

Starting in 2018, Overton Park Conservancy is simplifying the process of supporting the park. Rather than having separate giving options for memberships and donations, all supporters will now be considered members. To streamline giving, all online donations can be made at www.overtonpark.org/give. We’ll begin offering tangible items like t-shirts at events like A Day of Merrymaking and the Cooper-Young Festival, rather than as perks that we put in the mail.

We’re making this change now so that more of your dollars go directly into operating the park. By reducing the time and money we spend on membership benefits, we can direct more of your donation toward things like making repairs to heavily-used structures, cleaning and removing trash daily, responding to destructive storms, and restoring the ecological health of the Old Forest.

Whether you’ve been a donor, a member, or both in the past, now you’ll be able to make all gifts in one place, and your annual giving level (including membership in Roots or Canopy giving societies) will be determined by the amount you’ve given in the past 365 days.

What remains the same?

  • Roots Giving Society: All donors who give $240 or more a year will receive invitations to all Roots events, including autumn’s Flashlights in the Forest tour, and two Overton Park t-shirts.
  • Canopy Giving Society: All donors who give $1,000 or more a year will receive all Roots benefits, as well as invitations to additional events like lunch and learn talks with researchers. As a Canopy donor, you will also have the option of being recognized as the sponsor of a day in Overton Park, and we’ll work with you to design a banner that will be displayed in the park on the day of your choice.

Most importantly, our partnership with you to protect, preserve, and maintain Overton Park continues. We are so grateful for your support, and we hope you’ll continue to invest in the vital public space that has been at the center of Memphis life for over a century. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected].
