The future of the Brooks Museum

Brooks Museum ChalkfestSince assuming management of Overton Park, Overton Park Conservancy has celebrated a strong partnership with the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Our organizations support and promote each other’s programs, look for opportunities to collaborate on new initiatives, share operations expertise, and communicate frequently about general business related to providing quality public amenities for the people of Memphis. It’s a positive, fruitful relationship and will continue to be.

With the announcement that the Brooks Museum’s board of directors has voted to look at all possible locations for the Museum’s future, we are assured that the Museum will enhance whatever location it selects, whether in Overton Park or elsewhere, and that the people of Memphis will continue to enjoy the many benefits of its broad and diverse collection.

Should the Museum relocate, the Conservancy will be prepared to facilitate a planning effort to determine the next phase of the building and grounds in Overton Park. We will work to ensure that this asset will serve the public in some capacity, will be compatible with existing amenities within Overton Park, and that it will maintain the high standards and continuity that the Brooks Museum has provided on this site for more than 100 years.
