Snapshot of the Past: Towering Trees and Memphis History
The Old Forest State Natural Area is more than a stand of trees: it holds clues to our region’s history if we look carefully.
We’ll explore these snapshots of the past during the September Third Thursday Trek, and consider the various impacts across time that have potentially shaped the forest we enjoy today.
Join us in recognizing the unique characteristics of this particular space and understanding its vital role in our community’s identity.
Trek surfaces may include paved road, limestone gravel trail, and Old Forest natural trails with uneven surfaces.

Overton Park Conservancy is the nonprofit organization that has been caring for Memphis’s central green space since 2012. With the generous support of our community, we work each day to make the park a beautiful and welcoming place for all Memphians, as well as a valuable source of urban habitat for wildlife.
The Conservancy must raise roughly 85% of our budget each year from people like you who care about the many things Overton Park has to offer. A gift of any amount helps us maintain and improve the park.
