Urban forestry fellows win poster contest

Rhodes posterCongratulations to our Rhodes College Urban Forestry Fellows Helen Hope, Ethan Williford, and Mac Wilson, who won first place for their research poster about regeneration dynamics in the Old Forest. They received the honor at the International Society of Arboriculture – Southern Chapter conference in South Carolina this February.

Their research concerns the species diversity in the Old Forest, as well as the regeneration rates for specific species. While they are still gathering data, their preliminary findings show that new invasive species are still entering the Old Forest, and oaks and tulip poplars are having a difficult time establishing a new generation.
