Echoes of Reflection: Spatial Polyphony and Antiphony

February 5 @ 6:00 pm 7:30 pm CST

Experience the museum as both a concert hall and a time machine in this special Horizon Series performance. Held in the Moss Gallery and inspired by its medieval artworks, this all-instrumental program explores the ancient practices of polyphony and antiphony—sonic techniques that originated in sacred spaces and shaped the course of Western music.

From the echoing halls of medieval cathedrals to the resonant chamber of the Moss Gallery, musicians will create intricate layers of sound and spatial dialogue. Polyphony weaves together multiple melodies into one harmonious texture, while antiphony engages in musical call-and-response that bounces across space. With no vocals, every instrument becomes a voice—reviving the spirit of an era where music was both devotion and innovation.
