Ducks Unlimited: Continental Conservation from Your Backyard
Ducks Unlimited is the leader in waterfowl and wetland conservation across North America, but few understand the breadth of DU’s true reach. Join us at Science Café to get a deeper understanding of Ducks Unlimited’s history, conservation delivery and science, as well as a better look at how DU operates. The Ducks Unlimited mission is focused on waterfowl, but their work benefits far more than ducks.
Dr. Jerad Henson is a Mid-South native with a lifelong passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as hunting, fishing, birding, and cycling. Jerad obtained his MS and PhD from the University of Memphis, researching how waterfowl adapt to changes in energetic demands and stress during the fall and winter seasons. Dr. Henson served as an assistant professor of biology at Christian Brothers University for six years before transitioning to Ducks Unlimited National Headquarters in Memphis. In his role as project manager, he collaborates with the ecosystem services science team to understand the environmental benefits of Ducks Unlimited’s conservation efforts, as well as their initiatives in corporate sustainability. Jerad also supports science communication for the marketing team and hosts the Ducks Unlimited Podcast.

Overton Park Conservancy is the nonprofit organization that has been caring for Memphis’s central green space since 2012. With the generous support of our community, we work each day to make the park a beautiful and welcoming place for all Memphians, as well as a valuable source of urban habitat for wildlife.
The Conservancy must raise roughly 85% of our budget each year from people like you who care about the many things Overton Park has to offer. A gift of any amount helps us maintain and improve the park.
