Need some service hours at the end of the semester

Need some service hours at the end of the semester, or just want to come help keep the park welcoming? We've got a volunteer event this Saturday, April 19! Meet us at Rainbow Lake Playground from 8:00 to 12:00 and help spread fresh safety surfacing. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring a water bottle if you have it. We'll provide the gloves, rakes, and wheelbarrows!

Now's your chance to join our volunteer ranger crew! If you're in the park regularly, we would love your help with light trash pickup, inspecting facilities, and engaging visitors. Our next information session is coming up on Sunday, April 27 at noon, followed by a cookout at the golf clubhouse. We'll explore the beauty of the Old Forest in spring and record what we see. Bring your own notebook and any art supplies you'd like to use, and we'll have more to share!

Let's talk about snakes! At this week's Third Thursday Trek, our Programs Manager Dr. Malle Carrasco-Harris shines a spotlight on copperheads and their amazing resiliency in the face of change. Malle did her PhD research on copperheads in the Old Forest, so you won't meet anyone who knows more about these cryptic creatures! Join us this Thursday at 4:00 PM for our monthly walk-and-talk. We know you're hearing all that great bird chatter wafting through the park as the spring migrants begin to make their way north! Let us help you hear (and see) some of these brightly-colored visitors at tomorrow's Songbird Stroll! Meet us at 8:00 AM at East Parkway Pavilion (389 E. Parkway N.) on the second Friday and fourth Saturday of the month this spring. Beginning birders are welcome!

* We can't guarantee you'll see a scarlet tanager like this one, but we did see one in the park today, so we know they're around!
