Happy 901 Day from our new Executive Director

Today officially marks my first day as your new Executive Director of Overton Park Conservancy.

While we are lucky Tina will be sticking around a bit longer during a transition period and as we work to hire my replacement, I am eager to step foot into this new role. But first, I’d like to tell you a story that feels special, especially today.

Kaci outside the golf clubhouse on 9/1/19Six years ago, I moved back to Memphis on September 1 – 901 Day – Memphis’s favorite holiday. I’d been gone for several years traveling to all 95 counties in Tennessee doing very fulfilling work, but my heart remained home in Memphis. When dreaming of my next chapter, I always wished to be a part of somewhere that had deep roots in Memphis history, culture, community; what I did not know at the time was that I would land at such an extraordinary place – with many, many literal roots.

One year later on September 1, 2019, I celebrated my first day at my new job here at the park (pictured above, giddy). How serendipitous that the stars aligned for my new first day leading this organization to fall once again on 901 Day?

There is magic in this place, and we’re feeling it today. Across the city, Memphians are celebrating what’s right about this place we choose to call home. For so many, Overton Park is top of that list.

It is the honor of my life so far to embark on this new journey alongside a very special Overton Park Family – YOU are a part of that. If we have met before, I want to see you again. If we haven’t yet met, I want to get to know you.

As the team barrels into our busiest season this fall with so many incredible public programs and events, we’re also staring at our largest end-of-year budget goal in the Conservancy’s history.

In honor of my first day on this serendipitous 901 Day, will you please donate $9.01, $90.10, or any amount today to help me get going on a strong foundation? If you usually donate monthly or at the end of the year, please consider an additional gift to help us celebrate this new chapter. If you’re reading this and have never donated, please make today the day to change that. May I suggest a new monthly donation of $9.01?

We are grateful for you, and I am overwhelmed with love. Now let’s get to work!
