Old Forest trails cleared after storm
THANK YOU for your generosity in helping us clean up after the January 11 storm! Because of your donations, we were able to pay crews to perform the herculean task of clearing the Old Forest Loop in a little over a week. These photos show how the trail around marker 20 looked last Thursday and how it looks today. All trails are officially open in the Old Forest again.
Thanks to the team from Urban Forestry for taking the lead on clearing this section, and to HBC Trailworks for continuing the cleanup to make sure the trail is passable. We’re also grateful to crews from Echo Systems and the City of Memphis for their work in cleaning up around the rest of the park.
Want to help make sure these new openings don’t fill with invasive species? The best time to start preventing this is now! We’ll be hosting a volunteer invasive species pull this Saturday morning, February 1, from 8:30 AM to noon. Meet at Rainbow Lake Playground. Bring a water bottle and wear close-toed shoes, and we’ll supply tools, gloves, and garbage bags. No RSVP required!
