Overton Bark construction begins this week
A project to reconstruct the underground drainage system at Overton Bark begins Tuesday, September 10 and is expected to continue through Wednesday, September 25. During this timeframe, the all-dogs side of the dog park will be closed to visitors, who are encouraged to use the small-dogs side during construction.
The $50,000 project cost is being funded by Hollywood Feed, sponsor of Overton Bark since its opening in 2012, and by a grant from the Tennessee Dog Park Dash program of The Boyd Foundation.
Overton Park Conservancy is undertaking this project because over seven years of heavy use, the soil at Overton Bark has become compacted and degraded. Even small storm events create a large, muddy puddle in the all-dogs side of the park. We worked with engineers to identify underground structural improvements that would encourage better drainage, and this week, Wagner General Contractors will begin implementing that solution.
We expect construction to wrap up in the final week of September, after which we will host a volunteer work day to spread fresh mulch surfacing. Learn more and sign up for the Saturday, September 28 event at Volunteer Odyssey.
