This year, artist (and @uofmemphis PhD student) Julia Weil of @meadowlarkstudiosjw has created designs featuring birds of the Old Forest throughout the seasons: white-throated sparrow, Northern cardinal, Mississippi kite, and yellow-billed cuckoo. Our beloved Old Forest in Overton Park is classified as a State Natural Area by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). Who is TDEC and what do they do? At next Tuesday's Science Café, TDEC's Director of Conservation and State Naturalist Roger McCoy will highlight the important work of the Bureau of Conservation, sharing research on rare species he’s worked with and the strategies used to protect natural communities. He'll also provide insights into the process of selecting new natural areas for conservation. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the preservation of Tennessee’s unique ecosystems!
