Ephemerals and Specialists: The Relationship Between Spring Wildflowers and the Bees Who Need Them
Many of the wildflowers carpeting the Old Forest in the springtime are only visible for a few weeks every year. But did you know that there are bees that depend exclusively on these plants for nourishment? During this Trek, we’ll visit patches of early-blooming flowers in search of these specialist bees, and even try to find a nest or two!
Registration will open on this page one week before the program.
Trek surfaces may include paved road, limestone gravel trail, and Old Forest natural trails with uneven surfaces.

Overton Park Conservancy is the nonprofit organization that has been caring for Memphis’s central green space since 2012. With the generous support of our community, we work each day to make the park a beautiful and welcoming place for all Memphians, as well as a valuable source of urban habitat for wildlife.
The Conservancy must raise roughly 85% of our budget each year from people like you who care about the many things Overton Park has to offer. A gift of any amount helps us maintain and improve the park.
