Gallery Talk with Ariel Cobbert
November 16 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Ariel Cobbert grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and is the oldest of three boys and four girls. It made her an extrovert. It definitely shaped her childhood and created some of her best memories.
Throughout Cobbert’s academic career at UM, she participated in study abroad trips to places like Zimbabwe, Namibia, Sri Lanka and more. It really opened her eyes to the world around her.
In 2018, Cobbert interned at the Daily Press in Newport News, Virginia. After that, she moved to Memphis to intern for a USA Today owned publication.
In January 2019, at the end of her previous internship, she started working for Pigeon Roost, a film company that has since changed its name. Her time at the film company taught her a new form of storytelling. Documenting BTS on film sets is something she enjoys the most. After freelancing, she then worked at the newspaper for two years. Cobbert has also worked for the Smithsonian, National Geographic, Bloomberg Businessweek, NBC assisted with a Gap campaign shoot and much more.
She currently works part-time as a staff photographer at MLK50: Justice Through Journalism while still maintaining her career as a multidisciplinary artist.
