Creating a plan to move the park forward
Overton Park Conservancy is committed to identifying parking solutions that best fit the needs of all Park users and stakeholders. The recent opinion, with which we strongly disagree, issued by one attorney, does nothing to meet those needs, or remove the City’s, the Zoo’s, or the Conservancy’s responsibility to find ways to meet them.
The Conservancy will continue making progress on our park-wide parking and traffic planning effort in collaboration with our Park partners and the City of Memphis. We are confident that several immediate, achievable and affordable alternatives to Greensward parking already exist. These alternatives will be thoroughly explored, vetted and refined over the coming months in an open and transparent process that engages all Park stakeholders.
By working together, the City, the Zoo, and Overton Park can grow and thrive. If, however, we fail to collaborate, all the entities in the Park – and all the patrons of those entities – will be denied the ever-improving, world-class experience that Memphians and visitors to Memphis deserve.
