Party With Us!
To kick off the Roots program, we hosted two small launch parties this summer. Our great friends and park supporters, Katie and Tom Midgley, co-hosted the first gathering on a beautiful June Sunday in the formal gardens. Catering was provided by Just in Thyme and our friends at Memphis Made Brewing Co. generously donated beer. What better than a cold Lucid Kolsch, a delicious cucumber and dill sandwich, and great conversation with fellow park supporters? This family-friendly event was a hit will all our guests, especially our young park lovers who enjoyed cornhole, bubbles, coloring, and some fresh summer fruit. We plan to host a similar gathering each year for Roots members and their families.
In August we were fortunate to beat the heat at the home of Lauren and Justin Taylor. Long-time park users and dedicated supporters, the Taylors opened their home to friends and colleagues from around Memphis who share a love for Overton Park. Guests enjoyed delicious food from Ecco on Overton Park, whose owner Sabine Bachmann generously donated incredible dishes including garden ratatouille, pork tenderloin, Campari tomatoes, and spicy potatoes. There were also flavorful frozen treats from MEMPopS, whose cart you can often find at the Memphis Made parking lot. We also couldn’t have done it without our friends at Joe’s Wines and Liquor, who supplied a variety of wines and beers to pair with the food. We are lucky to have a great community of local business owners who give of themselves to help Overton Park thrive.
Is Roots right for you?
It is our vision that Overton Park Roots will attract enthusiastic and dynamic Memphians for whom Overton Park is a place for recreation, family, and community, and that Roots members will partner with Overton Park Conservancy to give our community a great public park. Help us to build a lasting, strong foundation of support for our great park, and join the wonderful folks who have already become a part of Overton Park Roots!
