DESCRIPTION:Your creative prime can begin at any age. You’re invited to get immersed into the artist process and build new skills through eight weeks of hands-on making.\n\n\n\nPrime Practice is an eight-week studio course for adults 55 and older who are ready to try something new\, strengthen their skills and connect with others. Choose printmaking with Vince Long\, watercolor with John Isaiah Kennedy or both. \n\n\n\nRegular creative practice can support well-being far beyond the studio. \n\n\n\nNo previous art experience is required. Materials are included\, and each two-hour session is designed to make participation comfortable and approachable. \n\n\n\nPrintmaking with Vince Long\n\n\n\nExplore four different approaches to printmaking while creating stationery you can use\, keep or give as a holiday gift. \n\n\n\nOver eight weeks\, artist and designer Vince Long will introduce screen printing\, block printing\, gel plate printing and experimental printing with found objects. Participants will create a stationery set using each technique and leave with four finished collections. \n\n\n\nLong is a Memphis-based artist\, designer and educator. He founded VL Print after graduating from the University of Memphis Fashion Design program. He also teaches at the University of Memphis\, sells his work through The Ugly Art Co. and works as an art handler. \n\n\n\nDesigned with accessibility in mind\n\n\n\nPrime Practice is designed to support a range of visual\, mobility and fine-motor needs. The class will also contribute to a larger collaborative work that Kennedy will complete in his studio. \n\n\n\nKennedy earned his BFA in studio art from the University of Tennessee at Martin and his MFA in painting from the University of Memphis. In celebration of this retrospective show\, young artists will explore form and texture by sculpting their own mini pottery pieces using Model Magic and kid-friendly clay tools. \n\n\n\nThis tactile activity introduces children to the basics of ceramics while encouraging imagination and individual expression—no kiln required!
