This talk will provide an overview of the vocabulary and methodological perspectives used by art historians, including formal analysis and issues of style; the idea of historical periods of art; and the expression of cultural ideals in a society’s artistic styles and iconography. We will also briefly survey the agricultural revolution of the Neolithic age and the emergence of history’s first civilizations. including Egypt.
